Holiday DIY Last Minute Gift Basket Ideas
I was gifted amazing Halloween goodies by my mother-in-law, sourced from local shops in Farmington. I thought it was such a neat gift because it supported small businesses. It also doubled as a great last minute gift option since shops are local, no shipping required! Last minute gift ideas don’t have to be just gift cards or meaningless items. These baskets are just as thoughtful, exciting and look good to boot.
What made these gift baskets stand out was the option to customize exactly what you want to go in the packages, all with a festive theme. You can grab similar items like these goodies at boutiques, gift and candy shops in your own hometown. Create a Thanksgiving goodies package for dear loved ones. Bring it to a small gathering or if you can’t be with your loved one’s this year because of COVID-19, you can still show that you care and are thinking of them. Leave the package on the porch of a close by friend or family member. Or place it in a sturdy box to ship out to those you won’t be able to see this year.
Use this idea for Christmas, Hanukkah, Valentine’s Day and more upcoming holidays!
There were two gift baskets given to our family. The first was a treat plate for the adults and kids to enjoy together. The second was a Halloween grab bag for my two boys, Logan and Quinton, to share. Here are specific items that were in the packages, to give you a few ideas on what to grab when you make your own.
For the treat plate, all from Emma’s Boutique:
-A delightful ceramic skeleton plate was picked out for a neat display for the caramel apples. It’s also perfect for serving the apples in cut up, easy to grab pieces too!
-Small Halloween tabletop and kitchen décor pieces were added like the gnome figurine, skeleton kitchen towel and paper napkins. I placed these items in my kitchen in designated spaces, for an added festive touch to our existing Halloween set up.
In the second package for the boys (age 2 and 4 months), all from Emma’s Boutique:
-A Gruffalo book with matching doll
-Pop-up monster book
-Winnie-the-Pooh doll
-Light-up pumpkin ball
-Hand sanitizer with dinosaur and car holder
-Sturdy, fabric pumpkin bag the goods came in
Both packages had plenty of candy from our local chocolate shop, Sweetheart Chocolates:
-Caramel apples
-Salted caramels
-Skeleton chocolate pop
-Macaroni and cheese hard candy tin
-Bubblegum in a truck
-Whistle pops
-Caramel popcorn
-Caramel apple lollipops
-Alphabet letter chocolates, for the first letter of both boys’ names
-Candy corn rice krispie treat and cookie
As you can see, it’s easy to grab any items that is on theme with the holiday and to toss into the packages. My mother-in-law even added a personal touch with the toy cars, ball and dinosaur, since my son Logan is obsessed with those three things right now. Have fun picking out the goodies!
Now, the packaging for both were easy to put together, no fuss! The treat plate was simply wrapped with cellophane paper and tied with a Halloween themed bow, after all the items were neatly placed on the flat surface. Use a thin, neutral colored yarn string for more durability in holding the cellophane paper together, before you tie on your holiday bow.
The boys’ grab bag was even easier, with all the contents placed inside a ready to go, festive bag. When you are picking out a bag to place the gifts in, try to look for a durable, reusable fabric bag, that can stand up on its own. This added element makes all the difference in presentation. If you can’t find this, a paper holiday bag is just fine too.
It was such a delightful surprise when we were gifted these items. We had fun opening the treats together, especially with the Halloween element added. I’ll be using this creative idea for future holiday gifts myself for a fun family present.
